NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Senior basketball guard Melvin Evans (Bronx, N.Y.) has been named Central Atlantic Athletic Conference (CACC) Student-Athlete of the Month for February 2026, the league announced today. Evans, a Sport Management major with a 3.33 GPA, earned First Team All-CACC honors in his senior season of 2025-26.

Evans is a four-time CACC Academic Honor Roll (Presidents' Level) member who excelled on the court as well. En route to the Conference honors, Evans placed sixth in the CACC in scoring (16.6 ppg), fourth in assists (4.2 apg), third in steals (2.0 spg) and seventh in minutes (32.6 mpg).

He became the 25th Cougar (14th in Caldwell's NCAA era of 202-present) to reach the 1000 point mark, vs. Bridgeport on Feb. 11. He finished his career with 1131 points, 19th on the all-time list (11th NCAA era), also placing fourth in steals (196, 1st NCAA era) and seventh in assists (325, third NCAA era).

The two-time CACC Player of the Week, five-time CACC Weekly Honor Roll member and two-time Met Writers Weekly Honorable Mention recipient helped the Cougars rebound from an 0-8 start (0-4 CACC) to a 14-14 overall mark and appearance in the conference tournament semifinals.

On the community service side, Evans has helped the Wiz Kids AAU team with basketball clinics and has conducted/led study hall sessions with teammates.

Evans is the second Cougar to win the award this academic year (Ariana Gaminara, women's soccer, Sept. 2025) and fifth Caldwell honoree since the start of the 2024-25 year.
