CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's basketball team lost an overtime thriller to Holy Family University, 80-78 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday afternoon in the George R. Newman Center. The Cougars fall to 5-10 overall and 1-5 in the conference with the loss, while the Tigers improve to 7-7, 3-2 CACC.

Karel Thuwis (Zonhoven, Belgium/Brehm Prep) put the Cougars ahead, 78-76 with a minute remaining. Albert Munoz buried a three-pointer from the left corner on Holy Family's next possession for a 79-78 lead. The Cougars had one more chance after the Tigers made 1-of-2 from the line, but a turnover with 2.5 seconds left ended the game in Holy Family's favor.
The two teams were tied at halftime, 36-36, with sophomore guard
Kevin Walker (Bayonne, NJ/St. Peter's Prep) scoring 14 points and sophomore forward
Michael Balkovic (Neptune, NJ/St. John Vianney) adding 11 points and eight rebounds for Caldwell. A basket by Walker and a three from Kenny to start the second half put the Cougars ahead, 41-36. Holy Family scored the next nine points, capped by a three-pointer by Eric Fleming for a 45-41 advantage with 15:12 remaining. Neither team led by more than two points the rest of the way, with 15 lead changes and seven ties over the final 15 minutes of regulation.
Caldwell shot 49.2 percent from the field and held a 46-28 rebounding advantage for the game. But the Tigers made 11 threes compared to seven for the Cougars and shot 75.0 percent from the line compared to 54.2 percent for the hosts.
Walker scored 22 points and made four threes, while Balkovic notched a double-double with 21 points and 17 rebounds. Thuwis registered a career-high 17 points to go with nine rebounds and three assists. Ervin Ezell led all players with 29 points and eight assists, with Munoz contributing five three-pointers and 16 points.
The Cougars continue CACC play with a game at Felician College on Wednesday, Jan. 9, beginning at 8:00 p.m. in Rutherford, N.J.
