NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Freshman forward
Terence Thompson (Rochester, N.Y.) has been named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 8, the league announced today.
Additionally, senior forward
DeAngelo Horn (Detroit) earned his second Weekly Honor Roll nod.
Thompson scored 17 points, grabbed 18 rebounds and swatted three blocks in Caldwell's win at Dominican on Tuesday, then had the game-winning tip-in to give the Cougars a one-point win at Wilmington.
He totalled eight points and eight rebounds, adding a block and two steals in 24 minutes after early foul trouble vs. the Wildcats
Thompson currently ranks fifth in the CACC in rebounding (7.4) and second in blocks (1.9).
The honor is his first DPOY. He also won the league's Rookie of the Week award on Nov. 30 and Jan. 4.
Horn had 18 points each in the two road victories. He notched seven rebounds and four assists vs. DUNY and nine rebounds and a key block with 10 seconds left that led to game winning basket by junior guard
Todd Rochelle (Laurelton, N.Y.) vs. WilmU.
Horn has scored 12 or more points in each of his last 11 games and is averaging 17.8 ppg over the last five, with a 61.1 FG% over that span. He has converted all 13 free throws this week and has made 19 of his last 20 from the stripe.
The Cougars host defending CACC Champion Bridgeport on Wednesday at 7:30 at the Newman Center.
