CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College softball team swept Holy Family University by identical scores of 8-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The victories give the Cougars a school-record 21 straight wins, breaking the old record of 19 set in 2004. Caldwell improves to 25-4 overall and 14-0 in the CACC, while Holy Family falls to 15-13, 10-4 CACC.
Both pitchers kept the Tigers off the scoreboard, with senior 
Kourtney Wilson (Islip, NY/St. Anthony) allowing four hits in six innings, and freshman 
Amber Padilla (Chino, CA/Pomona Catholic) tossing a three-hitter and striking out eight in Game 2.
In the second inning of the first game, junior 
Jacklyn Bates (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) doubled home junior 
Nicole Velardi (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) and later scored on a single by sophomore 
Kristen Knorr (Monroeville, NJ/Delsea) for a 2-0 lead. Freshman 
Caitlin McCready (Jupiter, FL/Dwyer) and sophomore 
Briana Gaspich (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) drove in runs in the fourth inning, and Knorr and freshman 
Brielle Reighn (Runnemeade, NJ/Triton Reg.) had two-run singles in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively. Knorr had three hits in the win, while McCready, Reighn and sophomore 
Alyssa Calderon (Fontana, CA/Etiwanda) had two hits apiece.
Knorr continued to deliver in Game 2, driving in runs in the third and fourth innings to help Caldwell build a 5-0 lead after five innings. Then in the sixth, McCready hit a three-run, walk-off home run, the first round-tripper of her career, to end the game. Gaspich, Reighn and sophomore 
Megan Fryday (San Marcos, CA/Mission Hills) also drove in runs, with Knorr, Reighn and senior 
Amy Leal (New Bedford, MA/Bishop Stang) recording two hits in the historic win.
The Cougars haven't lost a game since Mar. 11, when they fell to then-No. 16 Augustana College, 10-6 at the Rebel Spring Games in Florida.
Next up for Caldwell is another CACC doubleheader on Monday, Apr. 8, when the Cougars travel to face Wilmington University. The first game starts at 2:30 p.m. in New Castle, Del.
