Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – The Caldwell College softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader with Molloy College, 3-2 and 6-3 Friday afternoon at Bob Klein Field. The doubleheader featured two of the top three teams in the latest East Region rankings. The second-ranked Cougars are now 37-10 on the season, while No. 3 Molloy falls to 41-11.

In Game 1, Caldwell took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, when sophomore Alyssa Calderon (Fontana, CA/Etiwanda) singled home freshman Caitlin McCready (Jupiter, FL/Dwyer). Molloy answered in the bottom of the second with a two-run home run by Victoria Gunnels to lead 2-1. Then in the top of the seventh, sophomore Megan Fryday (San Marcos, CA/Mission Hills) led off with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from junior Jacklyn Bates (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo). Sophomore Kristen Knorr (Monroeville, NJ/Delsea) followed with a single to score Fryday with the tying run. After a flyout, freshman Brielle Reighn (Runnemeade, NJ/Triton Reg.) doubled to bring home Knorr and put the Cougars on top, 3-2.

Senior pitcher Kourtney Wilson (Islip, NY/St. Anthony's) finished up her complete game by retiring the Lions in order in the seventh for her 17th win of the season. Wilson (17-4) limited Molloy to two runs on seven hits. Knorr had two hits for Caldwell, while Gunnels went 3-for-3 at the plate for the Lions.

The Cougars got off to a fast start in the second game, scoring twice in the top of the first on a single by Reighn that brought home McCready and a grounder by sophomore Briana Gaspich (Brick Twp., NJ/Brick Memorial) that plated Reighn. Then in the second, Reighn's fly ball allowed Fryday to score from third for a 3-0 lead. Junior Nicole Velardi (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) doubled home senior Dia Cascone (Staten Island, NY/Susan Wagner) in the third and later scored along with Gaspich on an error to put Caldwell ahead, 6-0. Molloy scored twice in the bottom of the third and added a run in the fifth to make the score 6-3.

Freshman Amber Padilla (Chino, CA/Pomona Catholic) kept the Lions off the scoreboard in the final two innings to wrap up the win. Padilla gave up three runs on nine hits while striking out three and fanning two in seven innings to improve to 12-2.

The Cougars complete the regular season with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against the University of the Sciences on Saturday, Apr. 27. The first game starts at 1:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
