CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell College baseball team concluded its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schedule with two losses to Wilmington University, 5-1 and 4-0 Sunday afternoon at the Kiwanis Oval. The Cougars (12-27) are now 9-11 in conference play, while the Wildcats improve to 28-15, 13-6 CACC.

In the first game, Wilmington broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth on an RBI double from Adam Soley for a 1-0 lead. Then in the seventh, the Wildcats scored four times with two outs, including a two-run home run by Jonathon Rodriguez, to lead 5-0. Caldwell didn't get on the scoreboard until the bottom of the ninth, when senior Joe Doerrer (Middletown, NJ/Raritan) hit a sacrifice fly to score sophomore Joe O'Donnell (Belleville, NJ/Belleville).

Senior Craig Gourley (Point Pleasant Beach, NJ/Point Pleasant Beach) gave up five runs, four earned, on 10 hits in seven innings in the loss. Wilmington's Jamie Treml held the Cougars to an unearned run on three hits in 8 2/3 innings.

The second game remained scoreless through six innings. In the top of the seventh, a single by Soley plated Jordan Oncay for a 1-0 advantage. Then in the eighth, Mike Godwin hit a two-run homer to left that put Wilmington on top, 3-0. The Wildcats added an unearned run in the top of the ninth for a 4-0 lead. Caldwell registered eight hits but stranded eight runners, including five in scoring position.

Sophomore Tom Todaro (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) had two hits to lead the Cougar bats. Sophomore right-hander Dan Bartlett (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits. Senior Matt Cook tossed 1 2/3 innings of relief.

The losses also marked the final home games for seniors Doerrer, Cook, Gourley, pitcher A.J. Boardman (Sunnyside, NY/St. Francis Prep) and outfielder Jorge Ynoa (Bayside, NY/Bayside).

Caldwell currently sits in seventh place, a half-game behind Concordia College for the sixth and final spot in the CACC Tournament. A Concordia loss to Felician College on Monday would give the Cougars sixth place due to the regular-season sweep of the Clippers on Mar. 20.

Caldwell wraps up the regular season with a non-conference game with Nyack College on Tuesday, May 1, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Provident Bank Park in Pomona, N.Y.
