COUGARS SHUT OUT BLOOMFIELD IN MEN'S TENNIS

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's tennis team earned its second consecutive shutout with a 9-0 victory over Bloomfield College in a team dual Thursday afternoon. The Cougars, who also blanked Post University on Tuesday, recorded two consecutive victories for the first time this season to improve to 4-8 on the season.
Seniors Amir Zandieh (Tehran, Iran/Montville) and Jan Marco Jiras (Lima, Peru), pictured, won their match at No. 1 doubles, while Caldwell's No. 2 doubles team of junior Michael Ober (Lavallette, NJ/Point Beach) and freshman Josh Getka (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May Reg.) edged Bloomfield's Bhamik Patel and Evan McCall, 9-7. In singles, Jiras, Zandieh and Ober all were victorious at second, third and fifth singles, respectively. Juniors Alex Ali (Lakewood, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) and Thane McKenzie (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's) also won their matches at first and fourth singles. Caldwell received walkover wins at third doubles and sixth singles to complete the scoring.
Next up for Caldwell is a home dual against Chestnut Hill College on Friday, Apr. 24, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Caldwell College Tennis Courts.
