MEN'S TENNIS EDGES EAST STROUDSBURG, 5-4


CALDWELL, N.J. - Sophomore Amir Zandieh (Tehran, Iran/Montville), pictured, defeated Rob Mikolon, 7-5, 6-2 to clinch a 5-4 victory over East Stroudsburg University Friday afternoon at the Caldwell Tennis Courts. With the win, the Cougars improve to 4-5 on the season, while the Warriors drop to 4-12.

The Cougars opened the dual winning two of three in doubles. Juniors Chris Costa (Montville, NJ/DePaul Catholic) and Chris Laciura (Teaneck, NJ/Paramus Catholic) picked up an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, and Zandieh and sophomore Jan Marco Jiras captured an 8-6 decision at No. 2 doubles. In singles, Costa and Jiras each earned straight-set victories at first and sixth singles, respectively. After the Warriors won at second, third and fifth singles, Zandieh won the decisive match to give the Cougars the team victory.

Caldwell is back in action on Monday, Apr. 24 for a dual at Rutgers-Newark, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
