CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's tennis team defeated Bloomfield College, 7-2 in a team dual Thursday afternoon at the Caldwell Tennis Courts. The victory, which was the Cougars' second over the Deacons this season, gives Caldwell a 3-5 record on the season.
The Cougars won four of the six singles matches, as juniors Chris Costa (Montville, NJ/DePaul Catholic) and Marcus Collins (Brooklyn, NY/Cobble Hill) won straight-set matches at first and third singles, respectively. Junior Chris Laciura (Teaneck, NJ/Paramus Catholic) outlasted Rick Adams in a second set tie-breaker, 6-2, 7-6 at No. 2 singles, while freshman Mike Ober (Lavallette, NJ/Point Beach) won an 8-6 decision at No. 5 singles.
All three of Caldwell's doubles teams were victorious, with Costa and Lacuira picking up an 8-1 win over Adams and Ben Warehime at No. 1 doubles. Sophomores Jan Marco Jiras (Lima, Peru) and Amir Zandieh (Tehran, Iran/Montville) won their match at No. 2 doubles, while Collins and Ober won at No. 3 doubles.
The Cougars host East Stroudsburg on Friday, Apr. 21, beginning at 3:30 p.m. at the Caldwell Tennis Courts.
