MEN'S TENNIS DEFEATS STATEN ISLAND, 8-2


STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Caldwell College men's tennis team picked up its first road win of the season, defeating the College of Staten Island 8-2 Sunday afternoon. With the victory, the Cougars improved to 2-8 on the season, while the Dolphins fell to 0-9.

In singles action, sophomore Chris Lacuira (Teaneck, NJ/Paramus Catholic), senior Roman Veselinov (Varna, Bulgaria/Pushkin) and freshman Jan Marco Jiras (Lima, Peru/Santa Maria Marianistas) each did not yield a game in winning at second, fifth and sixth singles, respectively. Sophomore Chris Costa (Montville, NJ/DePaul Catholic) also cruised to victory in his match at No. 1 singles, defeating Craig Gellerman 6-2, 6-0, while freshman Amirpasha Zandieh (Tehran, Iran/Montville) won a first-set tie-breaker before downing Kevin Williams 6-1 in the second set at No. 4 singles.

The Cougars swept all three doubles matches for the first time this season. Costa and Lacuira were victorious at No. 1 doubles, while Veselinov and Jiras won at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, freshman

The Cougars next play at East Stroudsburg State on Tuesday, Apr. 26, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
