Paul Tighe came to Caldwell from Ireland in 1991 to play for the Cougars’ first men’s soccer program. He quickly emerged as the team’s main offensive weapon, recording 14 goals and four assists for 32 points as a freshman. A four-time all-conference selection, Tighe tallied 15 goals as a junior and was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Year. That season the Cougars won the CACC regular-season title and advanced to the championship game of the conference tournament. Tighe is the program’s all-time leading scorer with 40 goals and 96 points in his stellar career.

“Playing soccer in the U.S. was no different than in Ireland,” Tighe said. “It was just 11 men versus 11 men, just with different accents. We all had a common goal and that was to grow the program. Individually, I had a job to do and that was to score goals for the team.”

Tighe lives in Dublin, Ireland with his wife Georgina and 10-year-old son Joshua. He is a group procurement manager for SoftCo.
