Caldwell University Sprint Football Coach Louie Matsakis Announces Resignation

Pursuing Coaching and Administrative Roles in Native Ohio

CALDWELL, N.J. -- Caldwell University head sprint football coach Louie Matsakis has resigned, it was announced today by Mark A. Corino, assistant vice president and director of athletics. Matsakis, who compiled a 7-8 mark in his two years at the helm, will pursue coaching and administrative roles in his native Ohio.

Matsakis led CU to a 4-4 record in 2025 with a high-flying offense that had the most passing yards and total offense in the program's eight seasons of competition. The Cougars had four CSFL All-Conference performers and 14 CSFL All-Academic team members.

"I will be forever grateful to Mr. Corino, my student-athletes and the entire Caldwell University family for the opportunity to serve as head coach here," said Matsakis. "I am proud of what our staff accomplished in my two years here and I will always be a Cougar at heart."

"Louie has been a tremendous representative of Caldwell University during his time here," added Corino. "We appreciate his commitment to upgrading the program in so many ways, and we are confident that he has laid a solid foundation for future continued success. We wish him the best as he moves back home and onto other endeavors."

The search for the next Caldwell University head sprint football coach is underway.
