Amirah Boyd Named Caldwell University Acrobatics & Tumbling Head Coach

Presbyterian College Standout Second Caldwell Acro Coach

CALDWELL, N.J., May 30, 2023 -- Amirah Boyd has been named as the second Caldwell University acrobatics & tumbling head coach, it was announced today by Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics Mark A. Corino. The Presbyterian (S.C.) College graduate was a four-year standout for the Blue Hose and member of the NCATA Academic Honor Roll, competing in Compulsory Acro, Pyramid, and Toss, Acro 6 Element, Open and Synchronized Pyramid, Open and Synchronized Toss, and Team events at PC.

Boyd's success in the growing world of acrobatics & tumbling was a natural extension of her accomplishments in gymnastics, in which she reached Level 10, the highest level in the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympics program. The Atlanta area native took to Acro immediately at Presbyterian, which combined with her interest in teaching and passion for the sport made coaching on the collegiate level particularly attractive to her.

"I love that acrobatics & tumbling was created by women for women," said Boyd, part of Presbyterian's inaugural team in 2019-20. "I want to share the love I have for this sport with the young women here at Caldwell."

"We are pleased to welcome Amirah Boyd to the Caldwell family as our Acrobatics & Tumbling head coach and athletics administrator," said Corino. "Her success in and enthusiasm for the sport impressed us and we are confident she will impart those qualities to the benefit of our student-athletes."

Boyd takes over a Caldwell program that will enter its second year of competition in 2024 as one of more than 50 schools sponsoring acrobatics & tumbling, a number which continues to increase nationally. She sees that arc as a sign that the ceiling for success is unlimited.

"I love the challenge of taking what has already been established here and building a program," added Boyd. "I knew that Caldwell had added acrobatics & tumbling last year and when I visited the campus and met the people here I could tell how much they care about their student-athletes. I'm excited to get started with the returners and bring in more who are driven, will work hard, improve each day and most importantly have fun."

Boyd was a Dean's List student at Presbyterian, earning her degree in Psychology in May 2023. In addition to coaching acrobatics & tumbling, she will have administrative duties within the athletics department.
