CALDWELL, N.J. -- The fourth season of Caldwell University Acrobatics & Tumbling concluded in fine fashion as the program celebrated Senior Night as well with a 215.275-198.755 triumph over Georgian Court at the George R. Newman Center on Wednesday evening. With the win, the Cougars (4-3) retained the CACC Cup, awarded annually to a designated matchup between the two rivals and only schools in the Conference that sponsor the sport.
It was an evening of exciting acrobatics and tumbling action that ended with more than a few tears shed as six seniors, including three original members of the program were honored:
"Original Three":
The Cougars posted their second best team event score in program history (68.60) with a dazzling routine that followed a fine performance by the Lions. Caldwell recorded its second highest highest total score of the season in the process.
Four scores above 9.0, paced by the Compulsory Pyramid 9.4 and Open Pyramid 9.2 were the high-water marks, and the five-element Acro team of Garcia, junior
Mariana Aiello (Concord, Calif.), Bayne, junior
Zimayah Mosley (Newark, N.J.) and Riggio tied the school-record with a 8.45 mark.
Top tumblers were sophomore
Jackie Vereen (Suffolk, Va.) with an 8.375 in the Aerial and Riggio's 8.25 in the Open pass.
