DeMaio, Guarino, Pein Named to Prestigious NFF Hampshire Honor Society For Sprint Football

Honored for Academic, Athletic prowess in 2022 season

IRVING, Texas -- Caldwell sprint football standouts, senior QB Frank DeMaio (Nutley, N.J.), graduate LB Anthony Guarino (Tinton Falls, N.J.) and senior offensive lineman Hunter Pein (Secaucus, N.J.) have been named to the 2023 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of the NCAA, NAIA and sprint football who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers.

The Society is comprised of senior and graduate players who maintained a minimum GPA of 3.2 and were starters or significant contributors to their teams. The full list of winners for 2023 (2022 football season) is available here.

DeMaio passed for 908 yards in 2022 adn rushed for 148 more, tossing nine touchdowns and running for four others, The Biology major with a 3.55 GPA was also named to the Collegiate Sprint Football League All-Academic Team (three times) and to the 2022 CSFL Honorable Mention All-League Team.

Guarino, a criminal justice major with 3.75 GPA, is a two-time CSFL All-Academic selection and earned his second CSFL All-League nod after tying for the team lead in total tackles with 43, six for losses, 3.5 sacks, one interception and one forced fumble. Guarino was tied for the second on the team in sacks and ranked 18th in the CSFL in total tackles.

Pein, a criminal justice major sporting a 3.51 GPA, also earned CSFL Academic Team honors and was a second-team all-league pick. He anchored an offensive line that totaled 1,144 rushing yards this season and over 2,000 yards of total offense and 12 rushing touchdowns. The Caldwell offense ranked fourth in the CSFL in total yards, averaging 296.3 yards per game.

"Over the last 17 years, the Hampshire Honor Society has served as a powerful vehicle for schools to recognize their college football players who have distinguished themselves both academically and athletically, and we congratulate the schools and each of these young men for their commitment to excellence in all aspects of their lives."

The NFF Hampshire Honor Society capitalizes on the NFF's National Scholar-Athlete program by greatly expanding the number of scholar-athletes the NFF can recognize each year. The program further strengthens the organization's leadership role in encouraging academic performance by the student-athletes at the 774 colleges and universities with football programs nationwide.
