CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics
Mark A. Corino announced the hiring of Alex Lopes as the head coach for the men's lacrosse program and athletics administrator and will start his full-time role in early July.
"I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and would like to thank Mr. Corino, the search committee, and the entire Caldwell University community," said Lopes "This is a dream come true to be able to lead a program at a highly regarded institution in New Jersey, a place I've always called home. My prior experiences and great mentors along the way have put me in a position to accept this challenge and take Caldwell lacrosse to the next level in the CACC and beyond."
Lopes comes to Caldwell after working for four seasons on the Kean University men's lacrosse coaching staff from 2009-2012 and for the 2021 season. He worked as the program's offensive coordinator as well as assisting with recruiting practice planning, game planning and film exchange.
"I am extremely excited to have Alexander join our institution to continue the growth of our men's lacrosse program," said Corino. "I am confident that he will be able to build a competitive program and move it toward contending in the competitive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. He has a strong competitive background on a high level and I believe that he will work hard to live up to the university's mission."
Prior to Kean, Lopes had assistant coaching stops at NJIT (2016-20), Jacksonville University (2016-14) and Fairfield University (2012-14). Lopes served as the Offensive Coordinator/Recruiting Coordinator at both NJIT and Jacksonville.
Lopes was a four-year letter winner at St. Joseph's University (Pa.) while playing attack and midfield. At the conclusion of his career, he ranked in the top-10 in career assists with the Hawks.
Lopes earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from St. Joseph's in 2009 and his Masters of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Kean in 2012.
