Box Score 3 LAKEWOOD, N.J.- The third seeded Caldwell University softball team posted two wins in the elimination bracket on day two of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship as the Cougars defeated #8 Holy Family University 6-3 and #5 University of the Sciences 10-0 in five innings to advance to the final three teams.
 
Caldwell's third elimination game against #2 Wilmington University was suspended in the top of the sixth inning due to rain with the Wildcats ahead 6-3. The game is scheduled to resume on Saturday, May 7 at 10 am.
 
Caldwell opened the day against Holy Family where they jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first three innings. Freshman 
Jessica Klein (Trevose, Pa.) scored on a wild pitch in the first inning, while senior 
Emma Cooney (Livingston, N.J.) scored on an error in the second inning. The Cougars added two runs in the third as senior 
Maya Rodriguez (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and freshman 
Allison Winters (Blairstown, N.J.) connected on back-to-back solo homeruns to stake Caldwell to a 4-0 advantage.
 
The Tigers got three runs back in the fifth to close the gap to 4-3. Caldwell added two runs in the sixth as graduate 
Paige Sandoval (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) and freshman 
Ashleigh Tavaska (Jackson, N.J.) hit solo homeruns to extend their lead to 6-3.
 
Senior 
Mariah Culver (Owego, N.Y.) tossed a complete game, allowing three runs on nine hits with four strikeouts to earn the win.
 
Caldwell advanced in the bracket to face USciences in another elimination contest. The Cougars scored eight runs in the first inning highlighted by Sandoval's grand slam homerun in the inning. Rodriguez batted twice in the inning and drove in two runs with singled in both at-bats. Junior 
Taylor Mischler (Endicott, N.Y.) added a run scoring single in the inning as part of the rally.
 
Junior 
Courtney Grundhauser (Easton, Pa.) blasted a solo homerun in the second, while Sandoval singled in a run in the fourth as part of a five RBI game for the graduate catcher.
 
Senior 
Kayla Daly (Babylon, N.Y.) earned the win, going four scoreless innings, allowing two hits and struck out two. Winters retired all three batters she faced in the fifth in a relief effort.
 
In the final game of the day, Wilmington scored four runs in the first and added one in the fourth. Caldwell battled back in the fifth as Klein drove in their first run with a ground out, while Mischler connected on a two-run homerun. The Wildcats added a run in their half of the fifth before the game was suspended prior to the start of the sixth due to increasing rain in the area.
 
Caldwell and Wilmington will resume their suspended game on Saturday, May 7 at 10 am on the campus of Georgian Court University in Lakewood, N.J. The loser is eliminated from the tournament with the winner advancing to the championship final against top seed Georgian Court.
