GALLOWAY, N.J.- The Caldwell University women's track and field team posted several standout performances as the Cougars opened their 2022 season at the Stockton University Invitational on Saturday.
Sophomore
Alexis Byfield (Hawthorne, N.J.) took fifth place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.89. Sophomore
Dagnelly Sarmiento (Weehawken, N.J.) came in tenth place with a time of 20.64.
Sarmiento finished in fourth place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:33.50.
Junior
Deneisha Williams (D'abadie, Trinidad and Tobago) placed seventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.95, while freshman
Shamica Carey (Nassau, Bahamas) took ninth place with a time of 14.01.
Senior
Ana Gonzalez Martin (Toledo, Spain) finished in fourth place in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:22.90, which set a school record.
In the 4x100-meter relay, the quartet of Byfield, freshman
KJ Gordon (Latham, N.Y.), sophomore
Sabina Neupane (Sindhuli, Nepal) and freshman
Jalisa Smith (Newark, N.J.)finished in fourth place with a time of 54.81.
The relay team of Carey, sophomore
Gabriela Lopez (Belleville, N.J.), Sarmiento and Williams finished in fifth place in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 457.57.
Byfield took eighth place in the long jump with a distance of 4.69 meters. Junior
Suzanne Hamzah (Guttenburg, N.J.) finished in 11
th place in the javelin with a distance of 19.28 meters.
Sophomore
Victoria Pardi (Totowa, N.J.) placed fifth in the hammer throw with a distance of 30.54 meters, while taking eighth place in the shot put with a throw of 9.84 meters.
The Cougars return to action as they compete in the Ramapo College Invitational April 1-2.
