Women’s Basketball Selected to Finish Third in North Division in CACC Preseason Coaches Poll

NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The Caldwell University women's basketball team was selected to finish in third place in the North Division of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Preseason Coaches Poll as voted on by the 13 conference coaches.
 
The Cougars finished in fifth place in the CACC last season with a 3-7 overall record and 3-6 conference mark. Caldwell fell to Concordia College in the CACC Championship Quarterfinals.
 
Defending CACC Tournament Champions Dominican College took the top spot in the North Division with 64 points and earned seven first-place votes. Post University came in second place with 63 points and five first place votes, followed by the Cougars with 48 points. Bloomfield College rounded out the top-four in the North with 40 points and one first place vote.
 
Thomas Jefferson University secured top honors in the South Division with 79 points and eight first-place votes. University of the Sciences earned 67 points and two first place votes, while Georgian Court University totaled 60 points and two first place votes for third place. Holy Family University rounded out the top-four in the division with 57 points and garnered one first-place vote.
 
Head Coach Christie Conforti leads the Cougars in her first season and looks to guide the squad back to the conference playoffs this season. Caldwell posted three wins last season and reached the Quarterfinals of the CACC Championship in the spring.
 
Caldwell returns the core of their season from last season and key members from the previous season. Senior Paula Dits (Alicante, Spain) earned CACC All-Conference and MBWA All-Met honors as she led the Cougars last season with 14.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Senior Shadajah Thomas (Plainfield, N.J.) added 10.7 points and 5.3 rebounds last season for the Cougars. Junior Rebecca Morrison (Ayrshire, Scotland) averaged 10.1 points and 5.2 rebounds in 2019-20 after sitting out last season.
 
The Cougars tip-off their 2021-22 season as the host the Caldwell Conference Challenge November 13-14 at the George R. Newman Center. Caldwell opens their season on Saturday, November 13 against the University of District Columbia at 2 pm and play the University of Bridgeport the following day at 2 pm.
