Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla.- The #15 Caldwell University Softball team opened their 2016 season with a 3-0 win against Stonehill College but fell 9-7 to the University of Minnesota-Duluth. The Cougars open the season at 1-1, while the Skyhawks fall to 2-7 and the Bulldogs improve to 10-6.
In the opening win against Stonehill, junior
Amy Hickman (Jackson, NJ) went 3-for-3 and scored a run in the opening inning on a passed ball. Junior
Gracie Sullivan (Elmhurst, IL) also drove in a run with a single, while senior
Caitlin McCready (Jupiter, FL) drove in a run with a triple to help lead the Cougars to a win.
On the mound, senior
Amber Padilla (Chino, CA) tossed a complete game shutout, allowing six hits and struck out three.
In second game of the day, senior
Megan Fryday (San Marcos, CA) had a two-run homerun in the loss. Junior
Lauren Frye (Jupiter, FL) went 2-for-3 with a double and a homerun to lead the Caldwell offense.
The Cougars continue their season on Saturday, March 12 as they take on Ashland University at 9 am and #20 Southern New Hampshire University at 1 pm at Hancock Park in Clermont, FL.
