Cougar Men’s Soccer Beats Bentley at Merrimack Tourney, 1-0

Box Score
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Senior forward Steve Petrosino (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) scored the game's only goal to give the Caldwell University men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Bentley at the Marriott Kickoff Classic, hosted by Merrimack College at Martone-Mejail Field on Saturday. The win evens the Cougars' record at 1-1, while the Falcons fall to 0-2.

After a scoreless first half, Petrosino headed in a corner kick from freshman Simon Ekman (Pitea, Sweden/Lulea) in the 49th minute. The goal is the fifth career game-winner for Petrosino, who is making the transition from central defender to forward this season. The Cougar defense did the rest, as junior goalkeeper Michael Hartmann (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) made four saves the rest of the way to tally his fifth career shutout.

Hartmann finished with six saves for the game, while Jack Blatchford notched three saves for Bentley, which out-shot Caldwell 14-7 for the game.

The Cougars play their first home game of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 9 when they host East Stroudsburg University in a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 p.m.
