LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Caldwell College softball team suffered its second loss at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament and was eliminated, falling to Dominican College, 9-5 Saturday afternoon at the GCU Softball Field. The Cougars are now 41-7 on the season and will await an at-large berth into next week's NCAA Division II East Region Tournament. The Lady Chargers (20-27) eventually lost to Georgian Court in an elimination game later in the day.

The game remained scoreless until the top of the fourth, when Dominican struck for five runs, including a two-run, pinch-hit double from Anne Shiebler. The Lady Chargers scored two more runs in the top of the fifth to lead, 7-0. A groundout by freshman Gracie Sullivan (Elmhurst, IL/York) brought home freshman Lauren Frye (Jupiter, FL/Jupiter) in the bottom of the fifth for Caldwell's first run of the game.

Then in the sixth, the Cougars loaded the bases with three straight singles to lead off the inning. After a groundout, senior Nicole Velardi (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) doubled to score senior Sara Zambelli (West Milford, NJ/West Milford) and sophomore Brielle Reighn (Runnemeade, NJ/Triton Regional). Frye drove in junior Megan Fryday (San Marcos, CA/Mission Hills) with a grounder, and freshman Amy Hickman (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) singled to plate Velardi to make the score 7-5. But Elizabeth Hogan hit a two-run home run in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Sophomore Caitlin McCready (Jupiter, FL/Dwyer) had three hits and Velardi had two hits for the Cougars. Hogan pitched 6 2/3 innings and held Caldwell to five runs on eight hits to earn the win.
