LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Caldwell College softball team was defeated by Wilmington University, 6-3 at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, held at Georgian Court University Friday afternoon. The Cougars (41-6), who are seeded first in the tournament, will play Dominican College in an elimination game on Saturday. The fifth-seeded Wildcats (26-24) advance through the winner's bracket to face No. 3 seed Post University.

Wilmington jumped out to an early lead, scoring three times with two out in the top of the first. Miranda Pederson hit a bases-loaded, two-run double in the inning. Then in the third, Jen Fischbach led off with a home run, and Colby Wyatt singled in another run for a 5-0 lead. Caldwell got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning, as junior Alyssa Calderon (Fontana, CA/Etiwanda) hit a two-run home run, her second of the day, to make it a 5-2 game.

Sophomore Brielle Reighn (Runnemeade, NJ/Triton Regional) followed suit with a solo shot in the fifth to pull the Cougars within two. But Caldwell stranded two baserunners in the sixth, and Rebecca Stanley homered for Wilmington in the seventh to close out the win. Four Wildcats notched three hits apiece in a 17-hit barrage against four Cougar pitchers. Calderon had two of Caldwell's seven hits off Wilmington pitcher Stephanie Sarris, who went the distance in the victory.

The Cougars will play sixth-seeded Dominican College on Saturday, May 3, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the GCU Softball Complex.
