Box Score CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell College softball team defeated Felician College, 10-1 in five innings in the first game of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader Monday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The second game was tied, 1-1 in the top of the third when the game was called due to rain. The Cougars improve to 20-2 overall and 10-1 in league play, while the Golden Falcons fall to 11-15, 3-8 CACC.

Alyssa Calderon (Fontana, CA/Etiwanda) got things started for Caldwell in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run double that scored junior
Kristen Knorr (Monroeville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) and sophomore
Brielle Reighn (Runnemeade, NJ/Triton Reg.). Then in the second, sophomore
Caitlin McCready (Jupiter, FL/Dwyer) singled home freshman
Amy Hickman (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) and a sacrifice fly from Reighn plated freshman
Gracie Sullivan (Elmhurst, IL/York) for a 4-0 lead. Sullivan lined a double to left center in the third that drove home Hickman to extend the lead to 5-0.
Three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning put Caldwell ahead, 8-0. Knorr stole home on a double steal, junior
Megan Fryday (San Marcos, CA/Mission Hills) singled home freshman
Rebecca Welch (Carteret, NJ/Carteret), and senior
Nicole Velardi (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) hit a double that plated Fryday in the inning. Halei Van Dyke led off the top of the fifth with a solo home run to make the score 8-1. In the bottom of the fifth, senior
Jacklyn Bates (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) led off with a double, then freshman
Lauren Frye (Jupiter, FL/Jupiter) followed with a home run off the left-field foul pole to end the game.
Fryday and Sullivan each had two hits to lead the Cougar offense. Sophomore pitcher
Amber Padilla (Chino, CA/Pomona Catholic) scattered four hits and struck out four in five innings to improve to 7-2.
The second game with Felician will be replayed from the start on Sunday, Apr. 27 at 1:00 p.m. Caldwell plays a non-conference doubleheader at Pace University on Wednesday, Apr. 9, beginning at 3:00 p.m. in Pleasantville, N.Y.
