Box Score CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell College softball team beat Goldey-Beacom College, 4-3 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Sunday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The game completes a conference doubleheader that started on Mar. 29 but was interrupted by rain. The Cougars, ranked 14th nationally, improve to 18-1 overall and 8-0 in the conference, while the Lightning drops to 5-18, 4-12 CACC.
Caldwell broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning, when junior
Megan Fryday (San Marcos, CA/Mission Hills) singled home sophomore
Caitlin McCready (Jupiter, FL/Dwyer). Goldey-Beacom tied the game in the top of the fourth on a run-scoring double from Alivia Schoff. In the bottom of the fourth, McCready singled to plate freshman
Lauren Frye (Jupiter, FL/Jupiter), then came home on a double by sophomore
Brielle Reighn (Runnemeade, NJ/Triton Reg.) to put the Cougars on top, 3-1.
The Lightning responded in the top of the fifth with two runs to tie the score at 3-3. But Fryday led off the bottom of the fifth with a home run, her third of the season, to regain the lead, 4-3. Goldey-Beacom put a runner on second base in each of the final two innings, but the Cougars closed out the win and the sweep. Caldwell defeated the Lightning, 16-1 in the first game back on Mar. 29.
Fryday went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Reighn also had three hits. Junior pitcher
Hanna Walkinshaw (Aptos, CA/Aptos) gave up three runs on eight hits while striking out seven without a walk in seven innings to improve to 5-0 on the season. Courtney Dolson also went the distance for Goldey-Beacom, allowing four runs, three earned, on 11 hits in six innings.
Caldwell hosts a CACC doubleheader with Post University later this afternoon, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
