Box Score 2 ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The 10th-ranked Caldwell College softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Dominican College, 11-2 and 9-0 in five innings Tuesday afternoon at the DC Softball Field. The results give the Cougars a 32-4 record on the season, including an 18-1 mark in league play. The Lady Chargers fall to 13-22, 11-10 CACC.
In Game 1, Caldwell took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a sacrifice fly from freshman
Amy Hickman (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) that plated junior
Megan Fryday (San Marcos, CA/Mission Hills). A two-run single by Jacqueline Gonzalez in the bottom of the second put Dominican on top, 2-1. In the top of the fourth, Hickman delivered a two-run single to regain the lead for Caldwell, 3-2. Then in the fifth, the Cougars put four runs on the board, with sophomore
Brielle Reighn (Runnemeade, NJ/Triton Regional) and senior
Nicole Velardi (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) driving in runs. Four more runs in the seventh made the score 11-2, with senior
Jacklyn Bates (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) hitting a two-run double, and freshman
Lauren Frye (Jupiter, FL/Jupiter) and junior
Kristen Knorr (Monroeville, NJ/Delsea) singling in runs.
Sophomore pitcher
Amber Padilla (Chino, CA/Pomona Catholic) limited the Lady Chargers to two runs on six hits over seven innings to improve to 11-2 on the year. Fryday, Reighn, Knorr and junior
Alyssa Calderon (Fontana, CA/Etiwanda) each had two hits, with Fryday scoring four runs.
Freshman
Sydney Ponto (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) dominated the Dominican hitters in Game 2, tossing a one-hit shutout in the five-inning victory. Calderon doubled home Reighn in the top of the third for a 1-0 lead, then hit another RBI double in the fourth that plated sophomore
Caitlin McCready (Jupiter, FL/Dwyer). McCready and Knorr also drove in runs in the fourth for a 4-0 Caldwell lead. Then in the fifth, Calderon delivered a two-run single in a five-run inning. Knorr and Bates also singled home runs in the fifth.
Calderon was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs in Game 2. Reighn also had three hits and scored twice. Ponto is now 12-2 and leads the CACC in victories.
Caldwell hosts defending East Region champion Molloy College on Wednesday, Apr. 23, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
