Box Score 2 CALDWELL, N.J. – The 14th-ranked Caldwell College softball team swept Bloomfield College, 4-1 and 13-5 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The results extend the Cougars' winning streak to 15 while improving their record to 15-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play. The Lady Deacons fall to 13-8, 6-4 CACC.
In Game 1, Bloomfield took a 1-0 lead with a bases-loaded walk in the top of the first inning. Caldwell responded in the bottom of the first, as junior
Megan Fryday (San Marcos, CA/Mission Hills) followed a double from sophomore
Brielle Reighn (Runnemeade, NJ/Triton Reg.) and a walk by junior
Alyssa Calderon (Fontana, CA/Etiwanda) with a three-run home run to left. It was Fryday's second homer of the season. The score remained 3-1 until Calderon blasted her first home run of the year in the bottom of the sixth.
Sophomore
Amber Padilla (Chino, CA/Pomona Catholic) went the distance in the circle, allowing an unearned run on three hits while striking out nine and walking four in seven innings to improve to 5-1. Freshman
Amy Hickman (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) went 3-for-3 at the plate, while Fryday and Reighn each had two hits.
In the second game, the Cougars fell behind 1-0 again in the first inning but recovered well, scoring twice in the first and two more in the second for a 4-1 lead. Then in the third, Caldwell pushed eight runs across on five hits, including a three-run double by Fryday and a two-run double from sophomore
Caitlin McCready (Jupiter, FL/Dwyer). Junior
Kristen Knorr (Monroeville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) and Reighn also drove in runs in the inning. The Lady Deacons scored four runs in the top of the fifth, including a two-run single from Kaila Dugger. Senior
Jacklyn Bates (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) ended the game in the bottom of the fifth with a double that scored junior
Sara Zambelli (West Milford, NJ/West Milford) from second for the 13-5 win.
Knorr and McCready each scored three runs, while McCready went 3-for-3. Freshman pitcher
Sydney Ponto (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) improved to 6-0 on the year, holding Bloomfield to one run on five hits while fanning six and walking two in four innings.
The Cougars host a CACC doubleheader with Post University on Friday, Apr. 4, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
