Box Score 2 CALDWELL, N.J. – The 10th-ranked Caldwell College softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader from Concordia College, 9-2 and 12-1 Thursday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The Cougars improve to 30-4 overall and 14-1 in conference play with the wins, while the Clippers fall to 3-18, 2-14 CACC.
The results give Caldwell its 12th consecutive season with at least 30 victories.
In the first game, junior
Kristen Knorr (Monroeville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) led off with a home run to left. Sophomore
Brielle Reighn (Runnemeade, NJ/Triton Reg.) doubled in the inning and later scored to make the score 2-0. In the third, freshman
Gracie Sullivan (Elmhurst, IL/York) singled to score junior
Alyssa Calderon (Fontana, CA/Etiwanda) for a 3-0 lead. Concordia got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth with a two-run home run by Taylor Keefe. Caldwell answered in the bottom of the fourth with four runs, including a two-run home run by Knorr that put Caldwell ahead, 7-2. In the sixth, freshman
Lauren Galletta (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) hit her first career home run, and Knorr doubled home junior
Sara Zambelli (West Milford, NJ/West Milford) for a 9-2 lead.
Junior
Hanna Walkinshaw (Aptos, CA/Aptos) pitched all seven innings for Caldwell, allowing two runs on five hits while fanning five and walking two to improve to 8-0. Knorr went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, while Reighn had two hits.
The second game also started well for Caldwell, as Calderon hit a two-run double and later stole home in the bottom of the first for a 3-0 lead. Knorr and Sullivan drove in runs in the second to make the score 5-0, then the Cougars put seven runs on the board in the third to lead 12-0. Freshman
Sydney Ponto (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) pitched three shutout innings and gave up two hits while striking out four to improve to 11-2 on the season. Zambelli had two hits to lead the offense.
Caldwell returns to action on Tuesday, Apr. 22, when they face Dominican College in a CACC doubleheader. The games start at 3:00 p.m. in Orangeburg, N.Y.
