Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
CALDWELL, N.J. – Freshman pitcher Sydney Ponto (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) pitched a perfect game in Caldwell College's 8-0 victory in five innings over the University of the Sciences Saturday afternoon at McNeil Field. The Cougars took Game 2 of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader, 11-0 to improve to 25-3 overall and 12-1 in the conference. The Devils drop to 6-20, 5-11 CACC.

Ponto faced the minimum 15 batters, striking out six without a walk or a hit. She improved to 9-1 on the season with her second shutout of the year. The last Cougar pitcher to throw a no-hitter was Juliette Wilson, who blanked Chestnut Hill College on Apr. 24, 2010.

Caldwell got things going offensively in the top of the first, as sophomore Brielle Reighn (Runnemeade, NJ/Triton Reg.) followed a triple by sophomore Caitlin McCready (Jupiter, FL/Dwyer) with a home run for a 2-0 lead. McCready led off the top of the third with a double and later scored on a single by junior Megan Fryday (San Marcos, CA/Mission Hills). Then in the fourth, three consecutive doubles by junior Kristen Knorr (Monroeville, NJ/Delsea Reg.), McCready and Reighn, plus an RBI single from junior Alyssa Calderon (Fontana, CA/Etiwanda), plated four runs for a 7-0 lead. Freshman Gracie Sullivan (Elmhurst, IL/York) scored the game's final run in the top of the fifth after tripling and coming home on a single by freshman Amy Hickman (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty).

The Cougars started fast in Game 2 as well, scoring eight runs in the top of the first inning. Sullivan hit a two-run double, Knorr drove in two runs with a single, and Reighn, McCready and freshman Lauren Frye (Jupiter, FL/Jupiter) had RBIs in the inning. In the third, a groundout by Reighn plated junior Sara Zambelli (West Milford, NJ/West Milford) for a 9-0 lead. Then in the fourth, Sullivan and Frye hit solo home runs to make the score 11-0.

Reighn held the Devils to one hit in four innings for her first collegiate victory. Senior Lindsay Truan (San Jose, CA/Leland) pitched a scoreless fifth inning. McCready recorded five hits on the day, while Knorr, Reighn and Sullivan had three hits apiece.

The Cougars host 18th-ranked LIU Post in a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday, Apr. 13. The first game starts at 12:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
