Box Score CALDWELL, N.J. – The 13th-ranked Caldwell College softball team played its first home game of the season on Saturday, defeating Goldey-Beacom College, 16-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game at Caldwell Field. The second game was called after four batters due to rain and will be made up on Sunday, Apr. 6 at 11:00 a.m. The win gives the Cougars an 11-1 record on the season and a 1-0 mark in league play. The Lightning drops to 1-15, 0-9 CACC.
Caldwell wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard, sending 16 batters to the plate and scoring 11 times in the bottom of the first inning. Junior
Alyssa Calderon (Fontana, CA/Etiwanda) had two hits and drove in two runs in the inning, while freshman
Gracie Sullivan (Elmhurst, IL/York) hit a grand slam. In the second inning, sophomore
Brielle Reighn (Runnemeade, NJ/Triton Reg.) hit a two-run home run and freshman
Lauren Frye (Jupiter, FL/Jupiter) went deep for her first collegiate home run. Then in the third, Frye doubled and Sullivan followed with her second homer of the game.
Sullivan finished the game 3-for-3 with three runs, a double, two homers and six RBIs. She currently leads the team with three home runs on the season. Reighn drove in three runs, and Calderon and junior
Megan Fryday (San Marcos, CA/Mission Hills) had two RBIs apiece. Sophomore
Amber Padilla (Chino, CA/Pomona Catholic) allowed three hits while striking out six and walking one in five innings.
The Cougars were scheduled to play a CACC doubleheader at Holy Family University on Sunday, Mar. 30, but the games have been moved to Monday, Apr. 14. Caldwell's next doubleheader is Tuesday, Apr. 1 against Nyack College in Nyack, N.Y.
