RINDGE, N.H. – A goal by junior defender
Lauren Iuliucci (Franklinville, NJ/Delsea) in the 79th minute lifted the Caldwell College women's soccer team past Franklin Pierce University, 2-1 Friday evening at Sodexo Field. The victory came in the first game of the 2013 season for the Cougars, who were 14-5 last year.
After a scoreless first half, junior forward
Natalie Migoya (Lincoln Park, NJ/Morris Catholic) tallied the first goal of the season of a pass from senior midfielder
Julie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey) in the 63rd minute. The Ravens tied the score on a goal by Fernanda Marques in the 75th minute. But less than four minutes later, Iuliucci got on the end of a corner kick from senior midfielder
Carissa Strye (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) and headed it home for a 2-1 Caldwell lead. The Cougar defense closed out the game strong, holding Franklin Pierce without a shot the rest of the way.
Junior goalkeeper
Robin Franchi (Sewell, NJ/Deptford) recorded five saves in the victory for Caldwell, as the Cougars were out-shot, 18-5. Katie Weldon made one save for the Ravens.
Caldwell faces Southern New Hampshire on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 12:00 p.m. at Sodexo Field.
