POMONA, N.Y. – The Caldwell College baseball team fell to Nyack College, 7-2 in a non-conference game Thursday afternoon at Provident Bank Park. The Cougars are now 8-31, while the Warriors improve to 14-23.
Trailing 4-0, Caldwell got on the scoreboard in the top of the third on a single by junior
Andrew Nunez (East Elmhurst, NY/Cardozo) that plated junior
Stephen Luczaj (N. Merrick, NY/Mepham). After Nyack added a run in the bottom of the sixth, the Cougars made it 5-2 when senior
Adolfo Lopez (Ontario, CA/Ontario) singled home Nunez in the top of the seventh. That's as close as the game would get, as Nyack scored runs in the seventh and eighth innings for a 7-2 lead. Caldwell pounded out 14 hits and had runners on third in five different innings, but the Cougars stranded 12 runners for the game.
Lopez went 3-for-5, while Luczaj, Nunez, junior
Thomas Pisano (N. Bellmore, NY/Mepham) and sophomore
Jack Joyce (Bayside, NY/St. Mary's) had two hits apiece. Junior right-hander
Lucas Willenbrock (Amityville, NY/Amityville Memorial) gave up five runs, three earned, on seven hits in six innings of work for Caldwell.
The Cougars play a non-conference game against Bloomfield College on Friday, May 3, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Yogi Berra Stadium in Montclair, N.J.
