Concordia Edges Cougars in Baseball, 2-0

CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell College baseball team dropped a close Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game at Concordia College, 2-0 Thursday afternoon at the Clippers Baseball Field. The Cougars (8-30) complete the conference schedule with a 6-14 record, while the Clippers improve to 21-18-1, 13-7 CACC.

All of the offense came off the bat of Concordia's Cristian Fiorito, who hit solo home runs in the second and seventh innings. Anthony Pisano held the Cougars to four singles while striking out 12 and walking one in nine innings. Junior Stephen Luczaj (N. Merrick, NY/Mepham) had two hits for Caldwell, while sophomore Jack Joyce (Bayside, NY/St. Mary's) and freshman Alex Rodriguez (Merrick, NY/Calhoun) had the other hits. The Cougars advanced a runner to third with two out in the top of the seventh, but Pisano recorded a strikeout to end the threat.

Junior right-hander Chris DeRogatis (N. Arlington, NJ/Queen of Peace) turned in a strong outing on the mound, allowing two runs on six hits in 6 2/3 innings. Sophomore Michael Daniels (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.

The Cougars play a non-conference game against Nyack College on Thursday, May 2, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Provident Bank Park in Pomona, N.Y.
