Streak Hits 17 for Caldwell Softball with Sweep of Post

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
WATERBURY, Conn. – The Caldwell College softball team extended its winning streak to 17 games with a sweep of Post University, 2-0 and 4-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader Friday afternoon at LaMoy Field. The Cougars improve to 21-4 overall and 10-0 in the conference, while the Eagles drop to 11-15, 6-8 CACC.

In the first game, sophomore Alyssa Calderon (Fontana, CA/Etiwanda) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth with a single that brought home sophomore Kristen Knorr (Monroeville, NJ/Delsea) for a 1-0 Caldwell lead. Junior Nicole Velardi (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) came home on an error in the fifth for the game's other run. Senior Kourtney Wilson (Islip, NY/St. Anthony's) did the rest, limiting Post to just three hits while striking out five without a walk in a complete-game shutout. Knorr recorded two hits in the win.

The Cougars didn't get on the scoreboard until the fourth inning in Game 2 as well, with freshman Brielle Reighn (Runnemeade, NJ/Triton Reg.) delivering a two-run single that plated senior Dia Cascone (Staten Island, NY/Susan Wagner) and Calderon. Then in the fifth, freshman Ana Pedroza (La Mirada, CA/La Mirada) singled home sophomore Sarah Almasy (Stratford, NJ/Sterling), and later scored on a wild pitch for a 4-0 Caldwell lead.

Freshman Amber Padilla (Chino, CA/Pomona Catholic) tossed the second shutout of the day and her second doughnut in as many starts, scattering six hits while striking out three and walking three in seven innings.

The Cougars won 19 straight games in 2004 on their way to a 45-7 record, a CACC Tournament championship, a Northeast Region title and a trip to the Women's College World Series.

Caldwell hosts Chestnut Hill College in a CACC doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 6, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
