PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Caldwell College softball team extended its winning streak to 11 games with a sweep of Philadelphia University, 15-6 and 12-3 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader Thursday afternoon in Philadelphia. The Cougars improve to 15-4 overall and 6-0 in the conference, while the Rams drop to 10-14, 3-5 CACC.
Trailing 5-3 after two innings of Game 1, Caldwell scored 12 times over the final four innings to win 15-6. The Cougars used 17 hits to post their highest single-game run total since a 20-run outburst on Apr. 8, 2010. Sophomore
Alyssa Calderon (Fontana, CA/Etiwanda) led the way with four hits and three runs, while freshman
Brielle Reighn (Runnemeade, NJ/Triton Reg.) and sophomore
Kristen Knorr (Monroeville, NJ/Delsea) had three hits apiece. Sophomore
Briana Gaspich (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) homered in the sixth inning for her third of the season, and junior
Nicole Velardi (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) drove in three runs.
Senior
Kourtney Wilson (Islip, NY/St. Anthony's) allowed one run and two hits in four innings of relief to earn the victory and improve to 8-1.
The bats stayed hot in Game 2, as Caldwell scored 12 runs in the first four innings to cruise to victory. Knorr went 2-for-3 with a homer, three runs batted in and three runs scored. Reighn was 2-for-2 with a double, a home run and four RBI. Calderon finished her productive week with two hits, including a double, and two RBI.
Freshman
Amber Padilla (Chino, CA/Pomona Catholic) shut out the Rams on two hits to improve to 5-1 on the season.
Caldwell hosts Nyack College in a CACC doubleheader on Tuesday, Apr. 2, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
