BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Sophomore
Alyssa Calderon (Fontana, CA/Etiwanda) went 5-for-7 with two homers to lead the Caldwell College softball team to a sweep of Bloomfield College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Clarks Pond. The Cougars, who won 9-5 and 11-0 in five innings, are now 11-4 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The Lady Deacons drop to 8-9.
Calderon put Caldwell on top early in the first game, hitting a three-run homer in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the first, Bloomfield took advantage of two Caldwell errors to score five unearned runs and take a 5-3 lead. After senior

Briana Gaspich (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) in the fourth, the Cougars scored five times in the top of the fifth to lead 9-5. Calderon hit a two-run home run in the inning, while junior
Nicole Velardi (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) and freshman
Caitlin McCready (Jupiter, FL/Dwyer) also drove in runs.
Senior
Kourtney Wilson (Islip, NY/St. Anthony's) went the distance in the circle for Caldwell, allowing five unearned runs on 10 hits while fanning five and walking three to improve to 6-1. Calderon went 3-for-5 at the plate with five runs batted in and two runs scored. Velardi and sophomore
Kristen Knorr (Monroeville, NJ/Delsea) each had two hits.
In the second game, Calderon and Knorr had run-scoring singles in the first and second innings, respectively, before the Cougars pushed nine runs across in the third. Gaspich hit a two-run double and freshman
Brielle Reighn (Runnemeade, NJ/Triton Reg.) had a two-run single, while Cascone and sophomore
Megan Fryday (San Marcos, CA/Mission Hills) also drove in runs in the third. Gaspich, Calderon and Reighn each delivered two hits for Caldwell in Game 2.
Sophomore
Hanna Walkinshaw (Aptos, CA/Aptos) hurled a six-hit shutout, striking out five and walking none to improve to 2-1.
The Cougars play another CACC doubleheader on Wednesday, Mar. 27 against Felician College. The first game starts at 3:00 p.m. at Matera Field in Lyndhurst, N.J.
