LANTANA, Fla. – The Caldwell College baseball team dropped two games at the Palm Beach Challenge, losing to Molloy College, 14-4 and LIU Post, 11-7 Wednesday afternoon at the Santaluces Sports Complex. The Cougars are now 1-8 on the season.
Against Molloy, Caldwell fell behind early before tying the score at 2-2 with a pair of runs in the fourth. But the Lions went on to score eight runs over the next three innings to put the game out of reach. Senior
Anthony Morena (Westbury, NY/Holy Cross) went 3-for-3 with a double and a run, while junior
Joe O'Donnell (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) had two hits and drove in a run.
LIU Post had similar success in the middle innings in Game 2, scoring 10 runs over the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to lead 11-3. O'Donnell singled home junior
Andrew Nunez (East Elmhurst, NY/Cordozo) in the seventh, then Nunez hit a three-run homer in the eighth for his first home run of the season. Juniors
Paul Nyitray (Cranford, NJ/St. Joseph) and
Stephen Luczaj (N. Merrick, NY/Mepham), and sophomore
Robert Humes (Berlin, NJ/Winslow Twp.) each had two hits.
The Cougars wrap up play at the Palm Beach Challenge on Thursday, Mar. 14, with games against St. Thomas Aquinas College and Hillsdale College at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., respectively.
