Caldwell Softball Splits at Rebel Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Caldwell College softball team defeated St. Cloud State, 6-4 before losing to No. 16 Augustana College, 10-6 at the Rebel Spring Games Monday afternoon at Oren Brown Field. The Cougars are now 4-4 on the season.

Trailing 4-2 to St. Cloud State after four innings, Caldwell tied the score in the top of the fifth on a run-scoring single by sophomore Briana Gaspich (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial). Then in the sixth, the Cougars scored three times, including a two-run single by Gaspich that plated sophomore Kristen Knorr (Monroeville, NJ/Delsea) and senior Amy Leal (N. Bedford, MA/Bishop Stang) for a 6-4 lead. Senior pitcher Kourtney Wilson (Islip, NY/St. Anthony's) tossed two scoreless innings of relief to close out the victory.

Freshman Amber Padilla (Chino, CA/Pomona Catholic) started and gave up four runs on two hits in five innings to earn the victory. Gaspich went 3-for-4 with four runs batted in, while senior Dia Cascone (Staten Island, NY/Susan Wagner) had two hits.

Against Augustana, the Cougars fell behind 8-0 after four innings before mounting a comeback. After sophomore Megan Fryday (San Marcos, CA/Mission Hills) singled home Cascone in the fourth, Caldwell pushed five runs across in the fifth, including a two-run single by Fryday that made the score 9-6 Vikings. But that's as close as the Cougars would get, as Augustana avenged Sunday's 3-2 loss to Caldwell.

The Cougars wrap up play at the Rebel Spring Games on Tuesday, Mar. 12, facing Minnesota State-Moorhead and Tiffin University at the Osceola County softball complex.
