Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
LANTANA, Fla. – The Caldwell College baseball team scored 24 runs but gave up 31 in losses to St. Michael's College and Florida Memorial University at the Palm Beach Challenge Monday afternoon at the Santaluces Sports Complex. The Cougars fall to 1-5 on the season.

In the day's first game against St. Michael's, Caldwell scored five runs in the top of the fifth to take an 8-4 lead. The Cougars still led 9-7 heading into the bottom of the seventh when the Purple Knights answered with three runs in the seventh and five more in the eighth en route to a 15-10 victory. Senior Adolfo Lopez (Ontario, CA/Ontario) and juniors Paul Nyitray (Cranford, NJ/St. Joseph), Andrew Nunez (East Elmhurst, NY/Cardozo) and Stephen Luczaj (N. Merrick, NY/Mepham) each had three hits, with Lopez driving in three runs. Nicky Elderton homered and had four RBI for St. Michael's.

The bats stayed hot in the second game, as the Cougars pounded out 23 hits in a 16-14 loss to Florida Memorial. Caldwell led 5-4 and 6-5 but 11 Florida Memorial runs over the fifth, sixth and seventh innings put the Lions ahead, 16-8. After scoring a pair of runs in the top of the eighth, the Cougars put together five hits and scored four runs to make the score 16-14. Caldwell loaded the bases with two out for Nunez, who had four hits in the game. But Nunez's long fly ball to left field was caught, ending the comeback and the game.

Nunez ended up 4-for-5 with a triple and five runs. Junior Stephen Dodd (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) also went 4-for-5 with a double and two runs, while Lopez and Luczaj had three hits apiece. Nyitray drove in three runs.

Next up for the Cougars at the Palm Beach Challenge is a game with American International on Tuesday, Mar. 12 at 11:30 a.m. in Lantana, Fla.
