Cougars Clinch Second Place with Victory Over Nyack

Box Score
CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell College women's soccer team scored twice early in the first half and held on to defeat Nyack College, 2-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Tuesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The win ends the regular season for the Cougars (10-5-2), who wrapped up second place in the CACC standings with an 8-2-2 record in the league. The Warriors fall to 7-8-2, 6-3-2 CACC.

Caldwell took control of the game early, as junior forward Natalie Migoya (Lincoln Park, NJ/Morris Catholic) received a free kick from senior midfielder Carissa Strye (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) in the penalty area and beat goalkeeper Madeline Barbarino in the third minute for a 1-0 lead. Then in the 15th minute, a nice passing play by sophomore defender Ashley King (Little Egg Harbor, NJ/Pinelands Reg.) to sophomore forward Remi Piccirillo (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) left freshman midfielder Delaney Boyer (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Boro) with an open scoring chance in front of the goal. Boyer notched her second goal of the season to put the Cougars ahead, 2-0.

Nyack stayed in the game with a goal by Cyan Jean-Baptiste off an assist from Shaina Tomlin in the 31st minute. The best chance to tie the game for the Warriors came in the 64th minute, when a shot by Julia Losert hit the crossbar. But the Cougar defense held, clinching the team's fourth 10-win season in the 16-year history of the program.

Junior goalkeeper Robin Franchi (Sewell, NJ/Deptford) recorded two saves in goal for Caldwell, which held a 9-5 advantage in shots. Barbarino finished with four saves for Nyack.

The victory also marked the final regular-season home game for Caldwell's four seniors: Strye, midfielder Julie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) and defenders Rebecca Nadeau (Little Egg Harbor, NJ/Pinelands Reg.) and Rebecca Stinger (Atco, NJ/Hammonton).

The Cougars have made the CACC Tournament in all seven years under head coach Nate Guagliardi. This is the highest seed for Caldwell since the 2005 squad earned the No. 2 seed. Holy Family won the CACC regular-season crown with today's 1-0 victory over Georgian Court in Lakewood, N.J.

Caldwell will host a home game against the seventh-place team in the first round of the CACC Tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 2:00 p.m.
