Caldwell Men’s Soccer Loses to Mercy in Double Overtime, 2-1

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Caldwell College men's soccer team lost a hard-fought, non-conference game at Mercy College, 2-1 in double overtime Thursday afternoon at Mavericks Field. The defeat is the sixth in a row for the Cougars, who fall to 4-8 on the season. The Mavericks, who are ranked fifth in the latest NSCAA East Region rankings, improve to 8-2-1 with the win.

Andrew Levy put Mercy on top, 1-0 with a goal in the 39th minute. Caldwell battled for the equalizer, and the Cougars' efforts were rewarded in the 82nd minute. Freshman forward Haakon Sulheim (Lillehammer, Norway/Lillehammer) volleyed home a corner kick from junior forward Evan Teitelbaum (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) to tie the score at 1-1. The goal is Sulheim's team-leading ninth of the year.

The game remained tied through the end of regulation and the first 10-minute overtime period. Six minutes into the second extra session, Ransmond Aboagye knocked in a pass from Roberto Dashi for the game-winning goal.

The loss came in the fourth overtime game of the season for the Cougars, who are 2-2 in those games. Sophomore goalkeeper Michael Hartmann (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) registered three saves for Caldwell, while Nick Papas made six saves for the Mavericks.

Caldwell hosts Molloy College in a non-conference game on Saturday, Oct. 12, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
