Caldwell Falls to Pioneers in Baseball, 5-2

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Caldwell College baseball team lost to C.W. Post, 5-2 in a non-conference game Thursday afternoon at the C.W. Post Baseball Field. With the loss, the Cougars drop to 4-14 on the season, while the Pioneers improve to 12-10.

Caldwell took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, when sophomore Joe O'Donnell (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) singled home sophomore Stephen Dodd (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley). C.W. Post answered in the bottom of the third with a three-run triple by Matt Simone for a 3-1 Pioneers lead. After C.W. Post added a run in the bottom of the seventh, senior Joe Doerrer (Middletown, NJ/Raritan) scored on a grounder by sophomore Paul Nyitray (Cranford, NJ/St. Joseph's) in the eighth to make the score 4-2. The Pioneers scored on a balk in the bottom of the eighth for a 5-2 advantage.

Senior pitcher A.J. Boardman (Sunnyside, NY/St. Francis Prep) started for Caldwell and allowed three runs on three hits while walking three and fanning five in 5 1/3 innings of work. Glen Hudson earned the win for C.W. Post, yielding a run on four hits while recording nine strikeouts in five innings.

The Cougars play a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Philadelphia University Saturday, Mar. 31. The first game starts at 12:00 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.
