MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The Caldwell College baseball team lost a non-conference game to Bloomfield College, 2-1 Tuesday afternoon at Yogi Berra Stadium. The Cougars fall to 3-12 with the loss, while the Deacons are now 12-9.
Bloomfield took a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the bottom of the first. The Deacons maintained the lead until the top of the seventh, when Caldwell loaded the bases and freshman Robert Humes (Berlin, NJ/Winslow Twp.) scored on a wild pitch to tie the score at 1-1. In the bottom of the ninth with two out, the Deacons strung together three straight singles, with the last one by Kevin Caraballo plating Rafael Medina with the game-winning run.
Freshman Michael Sheridan (Caldwell, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) pitched well for Caldwell, giving up two runs, one earned, on eight hits in a complete-game effort. Freshman Dominick Mangarella (East Brunswick, NJ/Bishop Ahr) recorded two hits in the loss. Edgardo Fernandez had three hits for Bloomfield.
The Cougars and Deacons play a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader on Wednesday, Mar. 28. The first game starts at 3:00 p.m. at the Kiwanis Oval.
