St. Michael’s Beats Caldwell in Baseball at Palm Beach Challenge

LANTANA, Fla. – The Caldwell College baseball team fell to St. Michael's College, 10-4 as a part of the Palm Beach Challenge Monday afternoon at the Santaluces Sports Complex. The Cougars drop to 0-4 on the season, while the Purple Knights improve to 2-1.

Caldwell opened the scoring in the bottom of the second, when sophomore Tom Todaro (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) doubled home sophomore Paul Nyitray (Cranford, NJ/St. Joseph's) for a 1-0 lead. St. Michael's tied the game in the top of the third, then took a 4-1 advantage with three runs in the top of the sixth. The Cougars made it a one-run game by scoring two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh to trail 4-3. But the Purple Knights tallied two runs in the top of the eighth, and four more in the ninth to pull away.

Senior right-hander A.J. Boardman (Sunnyside, NY/St. Francis Prep) started and allowed four runs on nine hits while striking out seven and walking none in 5 1/3 innings. Todaro and sophomore Joe O'Donnell (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) each had two hits for Caldwell. St. Michael's Austin Ziskie gave up three runs, two earned, in 6 1/3 innings to earn the victory.

The Cougars play Palm Beach Atlantic on Tuesday, Mar. 13 at 6:00 p.m. at the Santaluces Sports Complex.
