Cougars Hit Century Mark, Beat Felician 105-73

Box Score CALDWELL, N.J. - Sophomore guard Wyatt Polk (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield) matched his career high with 33 points to lead the Caldwell College men's basketball team to a 105-73 win over Felician College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday afternoon in the George R. Newman Center. The victory is the first league win of the season for the Cougars, who are now 4-7 overall and 1-3 in the CACC.

Caldwell led for most of the first half and took a 43-32 advantage with 2:31 remaining in the period. Four points from Tajric Boggs helped Felician close out the half with an 8-1 run to cut the deficit to four, 44-40 at the break. The Cougars shot 56.5 percent in the half but committed 15 turnovers, which was one under their season average of 16.0 miscues per game. Sophomore guard Kevin Walker (Bayonne, NJ/St. Peter's Prep) had 13 points and Polk scored 11 in the game's first 20 minutes.

The lead grew to 62-54 with 13 minutes to play when Polk heats up with back-to-back threes. That starts a 25-8 Caldwell run that ends with two more treys from Polk for an 87-62 bulge with 6:35 remaining. Freshman guard Dawan Lighty (Paterson, NJ/Kennedy) converts a conventional three-point play at the 2:49 mark to make the score 101-70. The win is the first time the Cougars have scored 100 points in a game since a 103-87 victory over Wilmington on Jan. 23, 2003. The output also marks the most points scored by the Cougar men's team in the Newman Center, which opened in 2002.

Caldwell blistered the nets in the second half, shooting 63.6 percent from the field while hitting 6-of-10 from three-point range. Polk, who scored 33 points in a win over Nyack College on Jan. 24 of last season, shot 13-of-19 from the field and 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. He also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Walker and Lighty also achieved career highs, as Walker tallied 24 points to go with seven rebounds, six assists and three steals, and Lighty scored 19 points. Sophomore forward Michael Balkovic (Neptune, NJ/St. John Vianney) added 11 points, and freshman guard Brian Kenny (Howell, NJ/Jackson Memorial) dished out a career-high nine assists. Boggs scored 20 points to lead Felician.

The Cougars host Queens College in a non-conference game on Monday, Dec. 17, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Newman Center.
