Cougar Men’s Hoops Handles Felician, 76-57

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's basketball team rolled to a 76-57 victory over Felician College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Monday night in the George R. Newman Center. With the win, the Cougars improve to 9-6 overall and 4-4 in league play, while the Golden Falcons drop to 5-8, 3-4 CACC.

Caldwell broke open a close game with a 13-2 run late in the first half to take a 34-24 lead at the 2:39 mark. A three-pointer and two free throws from junior forward Arthur Morrison (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) allowed Caldwell to end the half with a 39-26 advantage. The Cougars shot 56.0 percent from the floor in the half while holding the Golden Falcons to 35.3 percent, including 0-of-14 from three-point range.

A three-pointer by freshman guard Kevin Walker (Bayonne, NJ/St. Peter's Prep) and another basket from Morrison helped Caldwell build the lead up to 48-31 early in the second half. Felician got back into the game with 11 straight points to cut the deficit to six, 48-42 with just under 15 minutes remaining. But senior guard Nikola Otovic (Kraljevo, Serbia) hit a three-pointer that ignited a resounding 21-2 run that made the score 69-44 with 6:38 to play and all but put the game away for Caldwell. Morrison had seven points in the run that he punctuated with a dunk off an assist from freshman forward P.J. Page (Copiague, NY/Copiague).

Morrison, whose 21 points against Wilmington on Saturday were a career high, shot 7-for-11 from the field and 8-of-10 from the line en route to his new career best of 23 points. Walker finished with 14 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Otovic had 13 points. The Cougar defense limited Felician to 32.9 percent field goal shooting for the game. The Golden Falcons were led by Antoine Obery with 19 points and six rebounds.

The Cougars return to action on Jan. 18, when they play at Bloomfield College in a CACC game.
