C.W. POST ELIMINATES CALDWELL FROM NCAA SOFTBALL REGIONAL

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Caldwell College softball team lost to No. 25 C.W. Post, 4-0 and was eliminated from the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament Sunday morning at the C.W. Post Softball Complex. The Cougars complete the season with a record of 32-25 following their seventh appearance at the NCAA Regional in the past eight years. C.W. Post advances to next week's Super Regional and will play Merrimack College for a berth in the Women's College World Series.

For the second day in a row, Caldwell failed to solve Pioneers' pitcher Christina Berardi. Berardi, who blanked the Cougars on one hit in a 6-0 win on Saturday, gave up just two hits in a complete-game effort on Sunday. C.W. Post's Kerry Fisher hit a two-run double in the fifth to break a scoreless tie, and Kendall Bright put the game out of reach with a two-run homer in the sixth.

Sophomore Kourtney Wilson (Islip, NY/St. Anthony) pitched well, striking out six while giving up four runs on 10 hits in seven innings of work. Sophomore Kelly Schymanski (Pottstown, PA/Owen Roberts) and freshman Nicole Velardi (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) had the hits for Caldwell.

The game also marked the end of the careers of Caldwell seniors Brittany Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) and Patti Garofolo (Collegeville, PA/Springford), who helped the Cougars win 146 games during their four years. Pulido set the program's record for career victories with a 76-32 pitching record, while Garofolo had 114 hits in her career. Both are the first Caldwell softball players to participate in four NCAA Division II regional tournaments during their careers.
