Pulido and Molloy's Megan Butterworth kept the hitters of both teams at bay through three innings, allowing one hit apiece. In the top of the fourth inning, junior Kelly Ryan (Woonsocket, RI/Mt. St. Charles Acad.) led off with a bunt single and stole second. After sophomore Kelly Schymanski (Pottstown, PA/Owen Roberts) walked, sophomore Cassandra Cefolo (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) bunted the runners to second and third. Freshman Nicole Velardi (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) came through with the big hit, roping a single to left that plated both Ryan and Schymanski for a 2-0 lead.

The Lions broke through in the bottom of the fourth with a run on a single from Katie Kraus to cut Caldwell's lead to 2-1. In the top of the fifth, the Cougars advanced runners to second and third with one out. Following a strikeout, a balk was called on the pitcher, allowing junior Rebecca Ashley (Bellingham, MA/Mt. St. Charles Acad.) to score. Schymanski then singled home junior Katie Margiotta (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) for a 4-1 lead. Caldwell kept the two-out rally going, as Schymanski stole second and advanced to third on a single by Cefolo. With freshman Jessica Miller (Sicklerville, NJ/Winslow) pinch-running for Cefolo, the Cougars executed a double-steal that allowed Schymanski to score from third for a 5-1 advantage.
