BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Caldwell College softball team picked up a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victories with a sweep of Bloomfield College, 10-6 and 6-1 Wednesday afternoon at Clark's Field. With the wins, the Cougars improve to 20-16 on the season, including a 10-6 mark in league play. The Lady Deacons drop to 21-14, 12-8 CACC.

After falling behind 1-0 early in the first game, Caldwell put four runs on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning. Sophomore Cassandra Cefolo (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) hit a two-run single, and junior Marisa Tamez (Fountain Valley, CA/Fountain Valley) delivered a two-run single in the inning. Then in the fourth, the Cougars scored three times on a passed ball, an error and a run-scoring single by Tamez to lead 7-1. After Bloomfield scored twice in the bottom of the fifth, freshman Jacklyn Bates (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) doubled home freshman Nicole Velardi (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) for an 8-3 advantage. Sophomore Kelly Schymanski (Pottstown, PA/Owen Roberts) and Cefolo each hit RBI doubles in the top of the seventh, as the Lady Deacons scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Senior pitcher Brittany Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) went the distance for Caldwell to improve to 12-4 on the season. Cefolo, pictured, and Tamez paced the offense with three RBI each.

In Game 2, freshman Mariah Lucena (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) doubled home Schymanski and Cefolo in the top of the first inning to put the Cougars on top 2-0. The score remained 2-0 until the top of the sixth, when Schymanski led off with a triple and scored on a single by Cefolo. Bates later hit a sacrifice fly that plated Cefolo for a 4-0 lead. Then in the seventh, Velardi and Schymanski both hit solo home runs to make the score 6-0. Bloomfield's Krystina Poloni led off the bottom of the seventh with a home run to make the score 6-1 Caldwell.

Sophomore Kourtney Wilson (Islip, NY/St. Anthony) gave up one run on only three hits while striking out four in seven innings to improve to 7-9. Cefolo went 4-for-4 with two runs and an RBI in the second game to finish the day with six hits. Schymanski hit for the cycle in the two games combined, with a single and double in Game 1 and a triple and homer in Game 2.
