KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Caldwell College softball team continued play at the Rebel Spring Games on Sunday, losing to Tiffin University 8-2 and falling to Adelphi University 2-0 at the Osceola County Sports Complex. The results give the Cougars an 0-4 record on the season.
Tiffin pounded out 11 hits and scored all eight of its runs in the first three innings of the first game. Caldwell managed a pair of runs in the top of the third, with sophomore Dia Cascone (Staten Island, NY/Susan Wagner) scoring on a single by sophomore Kourtney Wilson (Islip, NY/St. Anthony), and sophomore Kelly Schymanski (Pottstown, PA/Owen Roberts) coming home on a passed ball. But that is all the offense the Cougars could muster off Tiffin's Kelly Mayer, who held Caldwell to four hits while striking out four in a complete-game effort.
In the second game, Adelphi scored all the runs it would need in the top of the first inning on a two-run single by Paige Rhodes. Katie Andrews limited the Cougars to five hits and no runs, and did not allow a Caldwell base runner past second base. Senior pitcher Brittany Pulido (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) shut down the Panthers for the rest of the game, giving up 10 hits over seven innings.
The Cougars play C.W. Post and Wayne State on Monday, Mar. 14 as the Rebel Spring Games continue.
